Day zero - Friday November 17

Last day at work. Got up and had a shower. Fussed a lot about making double double sure I had got all my stuff in my bag. This new neck pillow I bought is a bit of a burden as its awkwardly shaped and although I can just about jam it into my bag, it makes the bag deform into a bulbous shape, so I've decided to hang it off the straps instead. Hopefully I won't get any BS at the airport for my bag being too big - I guess I could always wear it if it comes to that. Fingers crossed tomorrow on the plane it'll prove to be worth the trouble as I really could do with snoozing on the plane. I've already done the longest flight of the journey, but all the rest are still no joke - SF will take 6 hours. I dump a bunch of good stuff in the hotel room - some pringles, some cookies, an almost entirely full can of shaving foam and razors, plus the nyquil. I can't take this stuff with me, but there is a strong sense of mottani.

So I check out of the hotel - the company gets charged $1000 for the privilege of having me snooze there. I skip breakfast as I wasn't entirely happy with the service on Wednesday - it took three or four minutes to get a seat, my spoon had a chunk of food stuck to it and the breakfast staff seem to just make up the bill. It cost $11 on Monday and Tuesday for a coffee, some cranberry juice and a bowl of cheerios - then suddenly on Wednesday it jumps to $16. I guess it doesn't matter as the company is paying $60 for each breakfast regardless, but I still feel something dodgy is going on. I don't usually have breakfast anyway - and I'm struggling to try and force it - why eat if I'm not hungry?

I ask at the counter if I can get the shuttle bus over to the company. I've walked every day, but today I've got my baggage, so a lift would be great. No shuttle they say - same as last time.

Yet again I manage to time it so I arrive at the same time as Parisa - so she escorts me up to the office. I'm just about done looking at PrĂ¼m stuff - I've already made a user's guide and admin guide and explored it enough. I speak to Kevin about the Imp plan stuff - we agree a strategy and he agrees to send out an email with all the details. We got the password for the new portal certificates, so I get with Sungnien and we go through trying to update the external web-tier servers on the ATB. We ultimately fail, and I have to leave him with it. I agree once he figures out the process I'll write up a procedure in the UK so he doesn't have to do it in future. I spend quite a lot of time just tossing it off as I've run out of things to do. I surf the web a bit and try to get hype about SF tomorrow.

After Pat (and me) had completed work on the UTB and handed over to the UK yesterday, I expected that to be the end of it, but it looks like Pat forgot to create one empty directory, thus causing a file system to fail to mount. Its a real easy fix and take me all of 5 minutes to figure out, but instead of trying to fix it the UK staff have sent a clutch of emails saying the world is going to end due to this problem instead of working it out. This irks me, but I try to let it go. I speak to Pat just after lunch and he confesses he's got nothing to do either and is probably going to bounce out of there between two and three. He offers me a lift to my hotel at the airport - which is great as I get another ride in his Tesla and I don't need to worry about how to get there, or if Uber will work and so on, so he really hooks me up. We chat all the way there about his car - obviously. I bring up the self-driving features and he tells me they totally work, but his Tesla is an aggressive driver - it'll put the indicator on then almost immediately switch lanes, which although no doubt safe, he says it's a bit of an ass hole. How can you say to other drivers 'hey its not me, its my car, sorry'? He says charging off a domestic 110V supply was no good, he had to put in a 50Amp/240V outlet so his car would charge in a reasonable time. Probably means it would be hard to use an electric unless I'm a home owner :(. Anyway, he drops me off, I say goodbye and go to check in.

The hotel have my reservation, so that's good, but they didn't register that I'd already pre-paid for wifi, so I had to have a little bit of a to-do with the guy at the front desk. He did relent and I got the super speed internet package, but I had a feeling it wouldn't just work, and I was right. I get connected, but I have to click this web page saying I agree to pay $16, The guy at the desk says to just click it, he's already ensured I won't be charged, but I'm dubious. I get to the room, which is cozy and feels like it is subterranean, although it isn't. This hotel is big - I try and take a panorama photo for Steve...

The internet works good, so I settle in to watch the GBeast trucking stream then unpro Fridays. I snooze a bit during unpro Fridays, but for maybe only 30 mins. It's still early and I'm conscious that if I snooze now, then tomorrow in SF I'll be in entirely the wrong rhythm. Netflix has got the new Punisher TV show, so I figure that'll be good to keep me entertained.

The hotel TV has internet streaming capability - it says just pop in my creds and they'll be auto-wiped at checkout. Screw that, I'll watch in bed on the iPad.
